Category list

Sometimes it helps to see a list of all the categories and their descriptions. Here are the ones we use:

CM! – Convince Me! … Why should I buy what you’re selling? These posts focus on the larger context of convincing and how it relates to selling. For details on convincing, look to the Plan, Tell, Show, Try, and Satisfy categories.

Getting started – The first set of posts (here’s the first one) you should read when you visit or begin following theideamechanic.

Ideas – Posts with tips, tricks, idea lists, URLs … a wide variety of ideas to help you educate your buyers.

IM – These posts describe the philosophies and business of the Idea Mechanics. If you want to know specifically how the Idea Mechanics can help you, look in the Products and Services categories. If you’d like samples of our work, look in the Sample work category. For examples of how we’ve helped other clients, look to the Success stories category.

Interesting people – Posts about people; who they are, what they do, things they’ve done, skills they have. You know … interesting reading.

Other – Other posts: random topics on many different subjects and points of interest.

Plan – CM! step #1 – Plan the trip … As a seller, you need to get your buyer from their Point A to your Point B. These posts cover strategy, planning, scenarios, and other tools to help you prepare for a convincing conversation.

Podcast – Posts which are only podcast episodes.

Products – Products from the Idea Mechanics.

Reference – Posts that contain handy reference material for theideamechanic, like the Sitedump post.

Sample work – Samples of work from the Idea Mechanics.

Satisfy – CM! step #5 – Satisfy completely … Guarantees, moments of truth, overcoming objections, relentless attention to needs & concerns; these can make a buyer buy from you again and again, and … . These posts will give you insights and skills in the art of customer satisfaction.

Services – Services from the Idea Mechanics.

Show – CM! step #3 – Show proof … When a buyer hears your story, their first response is “prove it”; show me what you said is true. If you want to learn how to create white papers, persuasive arguments, demonstrations, and success stories – then this is the category you need.

Stories – The world is made of stories, not atoms. Here you’ll find stories that educate, entertain, and inspire.

storySite – StorySite documentation, guidelines, and hints.

Success stories – Success stories; how the Idea Mechanics have helped clients solve business challenges.

Tell – CM! step #2 – Tell your story … Your buyers want to hear who you are, what you do, why you are better than your competition, and how you can help solve their problem. These posts cover tools and techniques for building your story and telling it (either in short form or long form) in person, print, or using digital media.

Try – CM! step #4 – Try it … Nothing convinces a buyer to buy (again) like a great experience. These posts teach you how to emotionally engage a buyer using kinesthetic learning.

What’s CoolWhat’s Hot posts eventually cool off. When they do, we stop featuring them and move them into the archive.

What’s HotWhat’s Hot posts are current, timely, short blurbs on upcoming events, topics of interest, people & happenings in the news, or “hot off the press” information. These posts focus more on When, Where, Who, and What; the main posts focus more on Why and How.
