MacBreak 198: NAB 2009: Canon 5D MkII

Alex Lindsay from the MacBreak podcast talks about the Canon 5D MkII at the recent National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) 2009 show. (Some day I’m going to make it out to that show and the Consumer Electronics Show!)

Alex stopped by the Canon booth where they were demonstrating the new 5D MkII. Sure, the camera is sold as a still camera … but it’s not just another digital SLR. The 5D MkII crosses into new territory. It shoots stills at up to 21.1 megapixels (5,616 x 3,744 pixels) AND does video – 30 frames/sec – giving you up to 12 minutes of full HD at 1920×1080, or 30 minutes of SDTV at 640×480 resolution.

The aftermarket rigging for these cameras is something else. Watch the HD MacBreak video as Lindsay gives a quick overview of one that’s been fully decked out. It’s amazing, indie filmmakers are even shooting whole movies with this kind of a setup.
